The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) becomes enforceable on May 25, 2018. The GDPR’s main intent is to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). It also addresses the export of personal data outside the EU. The GDPR main purpose is to give control over their personal data back to citizens and residents. When the GDPR takes effect, it will replace the Data Protection Directive (officially Directive 95/46/EC) of 1995 (Directive).

The GDPR will affect any business that collects and use data from European citizens regardless of whether that organization is established in the Europe or not.

Those organizations that take action now will gain an advantage and be ahead of those who delay. Organizations who do not comply by the deadline will risk serious fines and reputational damage. The GDPR Non-compliance fines are €20 million, or up to 4% of a company’s global revenue, whichever is greater. There are also non-financial obligations in place that will require reporting of any breaches ‘without undue delay’, meaning with 72 hours or less.

GEOBRIDGE is committed to helping our clients achieve a basic understanding of what it means to be in compliance with GDPR, and so we have created a document GEOBRIDGE Guideline to GDPR to help address our customers concerns and to prepare them to meet the effective date of the GDPR.

Please contact us at Support@GEOBRIDGE.net to request a copy of this informative document and schedule a time with a GEOBRIDGE Team member to help answer any questions you may have about being compliant with GDPR.
